Le campement qui avait débuté une semaine auparavant protestait contre le projet d’un centre d’enrichissement d’uranium à Angarsk. La première réponse des autorités russes fut d’arrêter, le 14 juillet, une dizaine de personnes, de les détenir illégalement, de les intimider et de les relâcher quelques heures plus tard, après avoir pris leurs empreintes digitales.

La vingtaine de campeuses et de campeurs, qui avait donc déjà eu maille à partir avec la police, avaient été prévenus de l’imminence d’une attaque nazie et avaient organisé la protection du campement. Mais les militants écologistes n’ont eu aucune chance contre la quinzaine (d’autres sources évoquent le chiffre de quarante) de nazis qui les ont attaqués avec des barres de fer, des couteaux et des pistolets pneumatiques.

Ilya Bodorajenko, un jeune militant anarchiste de 21 ans, ainsi que deux autres personnes assuraient la protection du camp lorsque vers 5h du matin l’attaque a débuté. Il fut l’un des premiers à se confronter aux assaillants...

A la suite des affrontements Ilya était inconscient et perdait du sang par la bouche lorsqu’il a été conduit à l’hôpital où il décèdera à la suite de ses blessures dans la matinée du samedi. Huit militants ont également été admis aux urgences. L’un d’entre eux est grièvement blessé et les autres souffrent de fractures et de traumatismes crâniens.

La police a déclaré par la suite avoir arrêté environ une vingtaine de nazis, mais
les autorités russes essayent maintenant de faire passer cette attaque pour une simple affaire de vol sans caractère politique sous prétexte que les nazis ont volé des affaires et incendié toutes les tentes.

Ces dernières années, la Russie a connu une vague de violences nazies (1 2 3) qui ont pris pour cibles les étrangers, les gays et lesbiennes ainsi que des militants anarchistes, antifascistes ou écologistes.

Plusieurs manifestations ou rassemblements ont eu lieu, témoignant ainsi de la solidarité internationale. Par ailleurs, le WRI-IRG (war resisters’ international - internationale des résistant(e)s à la guerre) centralise les donations pour soutenir le camp et aider à supporter les frais d’hospitalisation et d’inhumation.

Ciao Ilya, We want to convey our sorrow and rage on the death of anarchist comrade Ilya Borodaenko, who was brutally killed by a Nazi gang that, in the early morning of July 21st, attacked the anti-nuke camp organized by several ecologist, anti-autoritharian and anarchist organizations near the town of Angarsk in Russia. This grave event shows the incredible dangerousness of Nazi groups - in Russia as elsewhere - who are killers on the payroll of financial and political lobbies that cannot stand any opposition to their plans to exploit the enviroment. ---- The Anti-nuke camp’s activists were attacked because they called into question, with their political action, the program of storage, selling and engineering of nuclear power organized by the Russian goverment and Russian companies, and because they denounced the harmfulness of atomic power, supporting clean, enviromentally-friendly forms of energy.

Despicable Nazis violence cannot - and must not - stop the fight for enviromental protection and for the creation of a world with more freedom and equality, against the State and Capitalism.

The Anarchist Federation adds its voice to those condemning the murder of Anarchist comrade Ilya Borodaenko, a member of Autonomous Action (Russia) at the hands of fascists on Saturday 21st 2007. A nazi gang, armed with iron bars, bats & air guns, attacked ecological protestors as they slept at the Angarsk anti-nuclear camp in Siberia. They beat seven comrades into hospital, where one is still seriously ill and where Ilya died.

The Russian state has attempted to hide the political nature of this outrage. Most offensively, it has implied that anarchism has nothing to do with environmentalism or anti-nuclear protest. With Autonomous Action and other Anarchist organisations we wish to state strongly that social and environmental crisis are intrinsically linked and that the causes of one can no longer be addressed in isolation from the other. The state has also portrayed the attack as nothing more than a skirmish between rival youth groupings. This was in fact a mobilisation of fascists from throughout the Irkutsk region in which the authorities are implicated.

Fascism stands for dictatorship, inequality, intolerance, and collaborates in the destruction of the natural world by capitalism. Anarchists celebrate freedom, equality and diversity, and fight to protect the planet we will all one day share.

We also honour the memory of Timur Kacharava & Alexander Ryuchin, & the African students Samba Lamsar & Kanhem Leon, who have died in the recent wave of neo-nazi violence in Russia. Anarchists in Britain and Ireland will remember the fallen with vigils, antifascist activity and environmental activism of our own this Summer. We send solidarity to the comrades continuing the camp at Angarsk.
